Projects
I'm also looking for work in the Toronto area. Feel free to download a copy of my current CV (PDF).
Work
Canadian Union of Public Employees, Ottawa
I am currently contracted as Information Clerk for the Canadian Union of Public Employees. My work involves a bit of everything: archives, records management, and taking care of a small physical library and digital library. One of the big challenges is setting up, populating, and encouraging use of a new digital document management system.
Research
As part of my position at CUPE, I am conducting research into long-term storage of electronic documents, particularly with an eye towards practical approaches that we may be able to implement. This work is still in a preliminary stage, and I am not sure yet whether the final form will be publicly available or not.
I spent much of the last semester working on a project where I studied the diaries of scientists as part of their personal archives. Though I handed in the paper in April 2007, I don't consider my research in this area to be finished: one of the things I discovered was that the topic is much larger than I was able to tackle in a few short months. The diary as a form has received a fair bit of interest, mostly from literary studies. Records and documents created in the process of scientific investigation have also merited considerable attention. Most of that, however, has been in the form of studies of publications.
Writing
As I have graduated from GSLIS, I am no longer a contributing editor of The Marginal, though I enjoyed and learned a lot from the experience. I hope to soon find another opportunity for regular writing on professional topics.
